Mechanical Vibrations 2024-2025

News

  • Find here the instructions for the oral examination
  • An update on how the theoretical part of the examination (with prof. Weijtjens) was shared via Canvas. Please check the announcement of 13/12/2024 for more information on the style of examination.

Old news

  • For the last class on December 12, we will have the pleasure to hear Cédric Dumoulin, from Aerospacelab (https://www.aerospacelab.com/) who will give a seminar about dynamic models and calculations for the design of space satellites.
  • After the seminar which will start at 8h10 (about 1h), there will be time for questions related to the contents of the course, or the ongoing project.
  • Next class 05/12 will be an in class lecture about the topics of Experimental and Operational modal analysis. There will be no video.
  • The submission of the 6 original exercise sessions is now closed, no submission after 28/11/2024 08:00 will be considered.
  • As a reminder, for those who resubmitted their exercises  last week. Due to a human error I can no longer collect the updated assignments from the server. If you have worked to improve the assignment last week, then please resubmit your exercises by the new deadline 28/11/2024 08:00. Even if you submitted it already last week, it was not collected!
  • For next class on 14/11 please have a look at the video on Structural testing, available from Panopto: https://vub.cloud.panopto.eu/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=644e33e2-0019-42d8-ab68-b22201044196
  • On November 28th (Change of date!) we’ll have a guest lecture from Mr. Simone Manzato, from Siemens Automation, he is an industry expert with many years of experience in experimental testing. We would appreciate it if you all join these guest lectures in person.
  • On December 12th we’ll have a second guest lecture from that Cédric Dumoulin from Aerospacelab to share his experience. We would appreciate it if you all join these guest lectures in person.
  • For the next lecture on 07/11, have a look at the video’s on Vibration isolation and TMD.
  • or the class on Oct 28 please watch the video on Damping (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slL0iUz5m_w) and Signal processing (https://vub.cloud.panopto.eu/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=b78c27bf-8b12-4976-9644-b20d00fa68a6) The latter is on Panopto.
  • Slides for Real world loads and Signal Processing are available from this page (see below) and Canvas.
  • On Oct 21st will be Prof. Weijtjens first session. We’ll discuss the topic of real world loads. This will be in an class lecture, no video to watch up front.
  • For the next class on Oct 14, please watch the videos on Dynamic Response Computation (https://youtu.be/rUHAdGz93xo), and Flow Induced Vibrations (https://youtu.be/qbab1JlArio)
  • For the next class on Oct 7, please watch the videos on Finite elements (https://youtu.be/DLzSjvokp-M), Continuous systems (https://youtu.be/l5FM4JcaNAc) and reduction to SDOF systems (https://youtu.be/jjYUbnN3b9Y)
  • For the next class on Sept 30, please watch the video on MDOF systems: https://youtu.be/6_b5gYU86rw
  • I am very sorry, I realize that I forgot to send the information about which video to watch before the class this Monday Sept 23. So here is the information : *Finish the video on SDOF system that we started in the class, * Watch the video on vibration sources. Considering the situation, I will understand if you did not get the chance to watch the video and will do a more regular class. All my apologies again, I will make sure this does not happen again.
  • First class Tuesday Sept 17 from 10 to 12 am on Solbosch campus, building U, room UB4.132
