Dynamics of structures 2024-2025

News

For the next class Wednesday April 9, please watch the video on Vibration isolation. As we did during the last class, we will be discussing the case studies for the oral exam. The class will start at 8h30.

Old news

  • For the next class Wednesday April 2, please watch the videos on Damping and Tuned Mass Dampers. The class will start at 8h30.
  • For the next class Wednesday March 26, please watch the video on Vibrations Problems and Design and Remedial Measures. As I have to be in the jury for BA1 projects at 9h30, the class will start at 8h10.
  • For the next class Wednesday March 19, please watch the video on Flow Induced Vibrations and Turbulent Wind Excitation. Note that the class will start at 8h30.
  • For the next class Wednesday March 12, please watch the video on Dynamic Response Computation and Response Spectra
  • For the next class Wednesday March 5, please watch the video on Continuous systems and Reduction to SDOF system
  • For the next class Wednesday Feb 26, please watch the video on MDOF systems and Finite Elements.
  • For the next class Wednesday Feb 19, please finish the video on SDOF systems (from slide 42) and watch the video on Vibration Sources.

Exercises

We will be using the open  software Octave (https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/), which can be downloaded here (free)  : https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/download.html

For what we will be doing, the language is the same as MATLAB, so you are free to use either of the two softwares.

For the students who have never used Matlab/Octave, we advise to do the introduction session below, which is written for Matlab but fully compatible with Octave.

Please bring your own laptop with you for these exercise session.

Project

For the project, we will be using a combination of Matlab/Octave and the finite element software FinElg, see instructions to install here
